Navy Retires Half-Life Warship

San DiegoUSS Fort Worth retires at half its planned life.

The Navy built Littoral Combat Ships under “concurrency” — mass production before the design proved seaworthy — and Fort Worth’s transmission failed during 2016 testing, leaving it unusable for years.

The Navy now has 27 of the 55 Littoral Combat Ships once planned, redirecting money from the failed class.
