Europe’s Satellite Network Costs More

BrusselsIRIS2’s bill just rose to €15.6bn.

The revised cost shows secure satellite coverage was underpriced from the start.

The constellation grew from 290 to 348 satellites, since continuous coverage requires a fixed number in orbit.

Commissioner Kubilius says initial service could begin in 2029, a year ahead of the original plan.
