EU Extends Mass-Scanning Rule

A losing floor vote couldn’t block it — beating it required an absolute majority.

The rule lets messaging providers voluntarily scan private texts with no warrant, though default-encrypted apps are exempt.

The carve-out now runs to April 2028, while a mandatory successor rule stays pending.
