Siraya Reclaim Indigenous Status

TainanTaiwan named the Siraya its 17th Indigenous group.

Colonial registries once classified plains peoples as assimilated, erasing their status on paper.

The July 30 decree followed a 30-year campaign that rebuilt the Sinckan language from Dutch-era missionary texts.

Other plains groups, including the Ketagalan and Papora, now have a legal precedent to follow.
