Pakistan Drops ID Chip

IslamabadNadra replaced the ID card’s microchip with a printed QR code.

Verification now requires querying Nadra’s servers, turning every ID check into a logged transaction.

The domestically made code, unlike the imported chip, can be photographed and copied and cannot prove itself offline.

Full rollout, covering overseas and juvenile cards, begins January 2027.
