Food Prices Hit Four-Year High

RomeThe UN food agency’s price index rose a third month, to 133.3 points.

The Sahel, Egypt, Bangladesh and Yemen buy at that index in weaker currencies than at the last peak.

Strikes on Black Sea shipping and a Hormuz fertiliser blockade pushed wheat, maize and sugar prices up together, it said.

The World Food Programme warns El Niño could push 50 million more into hunger by end-2027.
