A government, not families, is suing an AI company for failing to warn police.

The suit claims OpenAI’s reviewers urged a Royal Canadian Mounted Police referral, but leaders only deactivated the account.

“No company should be exempt from accountability simply because the technology is new,” said Niki Sharma, British Columbia’s attorney general.

The suit names no damages figure, and Sharma says any award could fund a new school.
