Pakistan Adopts Chinese Weather AI

IslamabadPakistan has run China’s MAZU weather AI since October 2025.

Experts say it is too early to tell whether MAZU is accurate in Pakistan’s terrain.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department runs a tailored version alongside other models and satellite data, a Chinese embassy attaché said.

“How we use that information to reduce losses is up to us,” said Zaheer Ahmed Babar, acting director general.

Chinese authorities also use MAZU for Nepal’s barrier-lake forecasts after the 26 August floods.
