RomeItaly is paying over $5 billion for two moon seats.

It buys Italy permanent astronaut access to NASA’s Moon Base program, not just symbolic participation.

Thales Alenia Space is building the 15-tonne habitat module, designed to house two astronauts for up to 30 days on the surface.

“It likely will be the first real habitation module that makes its way to the lunar surface,” Isaacman said.

The habitat design reaches a Preliminary Design Review in 2027, ahead of a 2033 launch.
