Claude Finds Enzyme System

San FranciscoAnthropic says Claude found a CRISPR-like enzyme system.

Similar programmable systems cut, copy and paste DNA, and several are in development as tools.

It rests on a reverse transcriptase from a jumbo phage, plus a non-coding DNA array and accessory protein earlier studies missed.

Anthropic says the function is unknown, and the finding appears in a pre-print, not a peer-reviewed journal.
