Malaria Cuts Threaten 146m Cases

New YorkA 30% malaria funding cut could add 146 million African cases by 2030.

The African Leaders Malaria Alliance says the cut would also cause nearly 400,000 deaths and $37 billion in lost GDP.

Africa carries 94% of global cases, and leaders say Global Fund and Gavi replenishments missed their targets.

“Domestic financing alone can not sustain the level of investment required to reach elimination,” said Muhammad Jallow, The Gambia’s vice president.

Leaders want the World Bank to fund a dedicated malaria booster programme next round.
