Consumers could face higher power tariffs if a sale proceeds without provincial approval.

The panel says Discos perform provincial functions under the constitution’s 18th Amendment and must go before the Council of Common Interests first.

“Not a penny shall be spent on devolved or CCI matters being handled by the federal government,” said Ghumro, the panel’s chairman.

The Privatisation Commission risks a privilege motion if it proceeds without the council’s approval.
