Pupils disrupted 564 high schools across France on Friday.

Police have detained about 2,000 people since the movement began, 90% of them minors, Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin said.

Students cite classes of 35, absent teachers, overheated rooms and planned education budget cuts, while police fired tear gas in Brest, Strasbourg and Toulouse.

Lola, 16, said in Rennes that “the police have no right to hit us or use tear gas on us.”

Darmanin has asked prosecutors to hold parents liable for the damage.
