Ischaemic heart disease killed about 9.5 million, and dementia climbed from 19th to 5th leading cause of death since 2000.

Global life expectancy recovered to 73.3 years, but healthy life expectancy, at 62.8, remains 0.4 years below 2019.

WHO data chief Alani Labrique says the next test is whether added years are spent in good health.
