arXiv now caps authors at 2 papers a month.

Submissions doubled in two years to 40,363 in September, arXiv says, and sextupled in computer science.

Volunteer moderators check each paper meets scholarly standards, and a small share of authors submitting many low-quality papers consumes their time.

“This is unfair to authors who continue to submit quality papers,” said Thomas Dietterich, chair of arXiv’s editorial advisory council.

Authors may also hold only 3 active submissions at a time.
