A farmer-led group counts 127 days without foot-and-mouth vaccine.

The Agricultural Research Council will let qualifying private firms manufacture its vaccine for the first time.

The council registered the vaccine in 2022, but its first batch of about 12,900 doses came only in February 2026, the group says.

Spokesperson Andrew Morphew said “a licence is not a dose.”

The council sends South African virus samples to Britain’s Pirbright Institute this month for vaccine-matching tests.
