81 of 83 votes elected Justina Shiroka-Pula president, Turkish state broadcaster TRT World reported.

The vote spared the 120-seat parliament a dissolution that could have forced snap elections.

Parliament elected her in a late-night Tuesday session, and she was sworn in Wednesday, hours later.

“The Republic has a new president, Professor Justina Shiroka-Pula; Kosovo has stable institutions,” said Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

The report names neither the parties behind the 81 votes nor the deal that ended the standoff.
