ParisA cyberattack defrosted refrigerators in up to 200 Intermarché shops.
Affected stores must throw away all fresh and frozen products, Intermarché told AFP.
Attackers reportedly triggered the defrosting remotely, and no one has said which system was breached, or by whom.
Almost 100 Coopérative U outlets were also hit, and prosecutors indicated the attack started fires.
Paris prosecutors will identify victims across France and link food losses and fires to the attack.
