HamburgFour years after Nord Stream, one Ukrainian is on trial.
Federal prosecutors classify the sabotage as a war crime, Russian state news agency TASS reported.
Investigators believe saboteurs used forged documents to rent a German sailing yacht and carry explosives to the pipelines.
The defence argues the pipelines cannot be considered purely civilian facilities and will seek dismissal of the charges.
The next hearing is 27 October, and the court has scheduled 24 hearings through year-end.
