A burnt aluminium plate up to 9 metres long crashed into a palm plantation, police say.

It landed about 3 kilometres from the housing complex of PT Agro Bukit’s plantation workers.

Indonesia’s research agency says the debris appears to come from China’s Zhuque-2E rocket, and heat-resistant parts can survive re-entry.

The debris caused no deaths or property damage, civil aviation spokesman Zachrudien said.

China’s space administration has not commented, and a second fragment found Tuesday awaits inspection.
