AustinTexas suspended 17 data-center permits and shut a portal.
Governor Greg Abbott called a pause in September, but the automated portal kept issuing approvals.
The 17 stormwater permits let builders raise and level ground, a key and sometimes final approval in Texas.
“STEERS is a portal that TCEQ uses to rubber stamp construction approvals,” said Sam Law of FracTracker Alliance.
Contractors used to automatic approvals may not know of the suspension and keep building, Law warned.
