Pakistan’s supply of one insulin product fell from 3,500 kits to 1,000.

Alternatives cost at least 20% more, lawmaker Amna Batool told the National Assembly.

Health parliamentary secretary Nelson Azeem said the German maker halted production for a year-long upgrade.

The health ministry says only 1 brand, Sanofi’s Apidra, is unavailable and rival rapid-acting insulins are stocked nationwide.

The product returns only when German supply is restored, Azeem said, and supplies could fall further first.
