WashingtonTrump cut 50% tariffs on Canadian crates, boxes and seaweed.
Maine Senator Susan Collins, in a tight re-election race, said she lobbied for the carve-outs.
The White House also imposed 50% duties on shampoo, vinyl flooring, coffins, carpets and window air conditioners.
Challenger Troy Jackson, a Democrat, said: “What about everything else? I mean, we can’t eat road salt.”
The new duties take effect 30 October, and Canada’s trade minister says Ottawa is still evaluating its response.
