BrasíliaA $125 billion forest fund has $7.8 billion pledged.
Tropical forest countries need $67 billion a year by 2030, the UN Environment Programme says.
Only 8 of more than 65 endorsing countries have pledged, and Norway’s $3 billion depends on the fund reaching $10 billion by year-end.
“It was launched without being bulletproof,” said Mauricio Voivodic, executive director of the World Wide Fund for Nature in Brazil.
The fund becomes operational in 2027, and first payments are not expected before 2028.
