Jigawa’s almajiri schools budget nearly doubled to ₦3.5 billion.

The state’s own census found 66% of almajiri learners rely on community meals.

Pupils study Quranic recitation, basic English, mathematics and science, plus trades such as carpentry and tailoring, the board’s executive secretary said.

“I initially resisted out of distrust,” said Alaramma Illiyasu, a cleric who now sends pupils to the model school.

The board says expansion will admit 7,500 more children, with 60 community schools reaching 6,000.
