FloridaPosed smiles repeated 10 times made people less happy.
Psychologist Nicholas Coles did much of the research that said smiling lifts mood.
Participants posed smiles once or 10 times while viewing pictures, and half risked losing $2 of $6 pay.
A single smile helps, but with repetition and penalties “you see it completely reverse,” said Nicholas Coles.
Coles says smile mandates, like Target’s rule for workers, reduce the emotional autonomy of workers and customers.
