Punjab Cotton Miss Lifts Import Bill

LahorePunjab planted 2.6 million cotton acres — 586,000 short of target, the Agriculture Department said.

Less cotton means less cottonseed, forcing Pakistan to import more edible oil and draining hard-currency reserves.

Pakistan’s Senate recommends dropping a proposed 18% cottonseed tax; the final budget vote is pending.
