Venezuela Quake Toll Passes 6,500

Caracas226,696 people have received care since June’s earthquake, Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez said.

That ratio against 6,509 dead shows a health system still absorbing a mass-casualty event weeks later.

More than 25,000 homes were damaged and 1,500 aftershocks recorded, Rodríguez’s office said.

Venezuela’s government remains the only source of the count, which has been revised upward repeatedly.
