Auditors found ₦1.63 trillion unaccounted for at Nigeria’s central bank.

It surfaces as the naira trades near 1,326 to the dollar, down 1.1% this month.

A Nigerian rights group cites a 2023 audit showing unrecovered state loans, bank bailouts and a farm-lending scheme with no beneficiary list.

“The CBN’s institutional independence cannot reasonably be understood as immunity from constitutional audit,” said Kolawole Oluwadare, the group’s deputy director.

The group has given the central bank seven days to respond or face a lawsuit.
