Hegseth Cuts Generals 20%

WashingtonHegseth will cut 20% of general and admiral posts.

Trump or Hegseth have fired or forced out more than two dozen military leaders since January 2025.

Congress sets general officer numbers by law, but the administration can leave slots empty by not submitting nominees.

“Our military is conducting major operations around the world, and the force is already under strain,” said Senator Jack Reed.

Pentagon officials say the services must finish cuts across roughly 800 general and flag positions by 1 January 2027.
