NASA is hiring 7,500 contractors as civil servants.

NASA had about 40,000 contractors and 14,000 civil servants before Administrator Jared Isaacman’s initiative.

An Isaacman aide says Artemis II controllers could not open contractor-held schematics and watched a Teams screenshare.

“I applaud Jared’s idea to get back to that kind of in-house capability,” said Apollo flight director Gerry Griffin.

Jacobs, KBR and Armentum say the change adds uncertainty as NASA returns to the Moon.
