Goiás$750 million of US defence money now backs Serra Verde.
Brazil’s Serra Verde says it is the first scale producer of four main rare earths outside Asia.
Roughly half of rare earths go into permanent magnets used in turbines, electric vehicles, fighter jets, missiles and drones.
“Critical minerals were born in wartime,” said Phil Johnstone, a visiting fellow at the University of Sussex.
Serra Verde targets 6,400 tonnes of rare earth oxides a year by the end of 2027.
