Barnacled jars dated a wreck to 4,500 years ago.

Archaeologists say the wreck off Türkiye is the oldest known, from the Great Pyramid’s era.

The hull rotted away, so Macquarie University’s Karin Sowada dated it from the clays of more than 20 ceramic pieces.

Further tests on residue in the jars are under way, and the wreck’s origin remains unknown.
