MassachusettsHackers issued 15,000 gift cards worth over $5 million.
A US Homeland Security warrant, unsealed last week, describes a Chinese organised crime ring shipping goods to China.
Hackers dumped memory from an internal support system, hijacked logged-in agents’ sessions and emailed themselves the cards.
The warrant never names the retailer, and 404 Media identified Staples from details in it.
Staples did not respond to requests for comment.
