United StatesIntel says no US-made robot fits its fabs.
The Federal Communications Commission’s foreign-robot ban was unclear enough that Intel requested a waiver.
The commission granted it on 22 October, six days after Intel filed, covering the robots plus hardware, software and firmware changes.
International Data Corporation estimates the rule could cut US humanoid-robot revenue by 58% by 2030.
Intel’s one-year waiver expires in October 2027.
How each outlet framed it
- Ars Technica
- reads the waiver as evidence of regulatory confusion, noting the FCC ban was so unclear Intel sought a one-year exemption 'out of an abundance of caution'
- The Record leans critical
- centres the HiSilicon surveillance-chip ban and the 'built in detection algorithms for human faces' language, presenting the rule as the first enforcement action under the new covered-list regime
