A third ECB rate hike this year looks almost inevitable.

Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel said there is little alternative unless the inflation outlook improves significantly.

The ECB sees inflation above 4% in coming months, driven by energy over which it has no control.

Nagel conceded there is little evidence the energy surge is setting off second-round effects.

The ECB decides on 17 December, with its deposit rate at 2.5%.
